Description

The Biocom California Institute Military Fellowship is for current and former military members and provides exposure to the life science community and further their relationships and understanding of career options in this growing sector. Many jobs in the life science and biotechnology industry utilize the very skills military experience provides and do not require a science backgroundAmong these are jobs in program or project management, IT, operations, business development, finance, quality assurance and regulatory affairs, and supply chainA science background or advance degree is not required to participate in this fellowship. 

 Key Components of the Program 

Mentorship 

Fellows will have an assigned mentor who is a senior level employee in the biotechnology or life science field and a former Veteran who has successfully transitioned into a career in the life science industryThis mentor will connect their fellow to networking opportunities, provide career feedback, and provide unique insight into the industry.  

    Resume & Interview Coaching

Fellows will have their resume reviewed and will be provided with feedback by life science human resources and talent acquisition specialists.  As a part of the program fellows will also participate in practice interviews with HR industry professionals to help refine their interview skills and highlight their strengths relevant in the life science industry.  

    Networking & Development Opportunities: Essential Skills for Life Science Professionals Training

Fellows will have the opportunity to meet and connect with employees from a variety of life science companies. They also have free access to attend 1 Biocom California event per month throughout the year. Learn more about upcoming Biocom California Eventshere.  

Certificate of Completion

Upon successful completion of your fellowship, you will receive a Biocom California Institute certificate of completion and a designation as a Biocom California Military Fellow. 

   COMMITMENT

Activities for this fellowship will occur between March and December of 2022 and include:  

  • Professional development sessions

  • Minimum of 3 meetings with assigned Mentor

  • 1:1 Mock interviews with HR Professionals in Life Science 

  • 1:1 Resume review session with HR professionals

  • Monthly Fellowship cohort meetings

  • Biocom California Institute’s annual Career Fair  

  • Biocom California Institute’s Veterans Symposium  

  • Biocom California Institute's Military Fellows Capstone Event 

The program is an estimated 40-50 hours over the course of six months. Specific dates of the meetings, professional development sessions, and events will be provided at the beginning of the program Attendance and participation in activities and professional development sessions are mandatory.

Application Deadline 

February 22, 2022. Applicants will be notified in late February of 2022 if they are accepted. 

We will be accepting 20 candidates for the 2022 cohort. This program has high interest and the number of applications in the past has exceeded the slots available. If you are not accepted into this cohort, you are welcome apply to the next cohort. 

Participation in this program does not guarantee job placement or job offer. Fellowships are limited to transitioning military or veterans living in California
